This position is responsible for providing protection and security to Library customers, staff, property and assets.

Conducts investigations of criminal activity against the Library and Library staff while in the performance of their duties.

  • Conducts research and personal interviews in accordance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations. Analyzes all necessary information and documents related to investigations.
  • Responsible for the safety and security of multiple Library locations.
  • Makes recommendations to ensure that all library facilities have adequate protection from unlawful intrusions and other criminal activity.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert where applicable and will provide testimonials regarding the incident, the process and/or tools utilized to identify the subject (s) and/or loss.
  • Monitors designated libraries and responds to issues in a timely and urgent manner as needed. Will spend most of their shift in the field visiting and responding to libraries that they are responsible for.
  • Will gain an understanding of security issues at their assigned libraries. get to know the different issues at their respective libraries.
  • Maintains communication with all Library agencies. Maintains regular contact with local police authorities. Interacts with all law enforcement agencies as required.
  • Develops relationships with library staff at their assigned libraries.
  • Develops, implements and maintains security and safety programs for the Library. Using crime prevention techniques, develops and delivers safety training to all staff.
  • May be teamed up with an additional senior investigator to assist with ongoing issues.
  • May supervise security workforce on a weekly rotational basis.
  • Serves as a backup to the Fire Safety Manager.
  • May be required to respond to a library out of his or her assigned region if needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

The available scheduled shifts/hours are:

  • 10AM – 6PM Tuesday – Saturday
  • 12:30PM – 8:30PM Tuesday – Saturday
  • 1PM – 9PM Tuesday – Saturday

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency or General Equivalency Diploma and 5 years of investigation experience, including supervisory experience in the security field or law enforcement required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and 2 years of driving experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills required. Must be proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Commitment to serving all communities in the most diverse area of the country.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Police Science or related field in combination with 1 year of investigation and supervisory experience in the security/ law enforcement preferred.
