  • Build deep expertise in complex medical injury, product liability, and wrongful death litigation alongside seasoned trial attorneys.
  • Get hands-on experience across the full litigation lifecycle — research, discovery, medical records, depositions, trial prep, and e-filing.
  • Competitive hourly pay, with higher rates for experienced paralegals and access to a 401k plan.

Location

  • Convenient drive from Kansas City, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, and surrounding suburbs.

Note

  • You must have at least 2+ years of litigation paralegal or strong legal assistant experience, ideally involving medical injury, product liability, or wrongful death matters.
  • This is an on-site, part-time role dedicated to one case, averaging 20 to 25 hours per week.

About Our Client

Our client is a respected litigation law firm with a strong track record handling complex matters in state and federal courts across the Midwest. They are known for high-quality advocacy, a collaborative team culture, and providing paralegals with meaningful responsibility on challenging cases.

Job Description

  • Support attorneys on a single, high-profile case from initial filings through trial and post-trial work.
  • Manage case files, deadlines, and calendars; track caseload requirements and billable time.
  • Conduct legal research on statutes, regulations, case law, and legal articles.
  • Draft and proofread pleadings, discovery responses, motions, correspondence, and hearing/trial materials.
  • Request, organize, and analyze medical and billing records; summarize key findings for attorneys.
  • Assist with deposition preparation, including witness and expert research and exhibit preparation.
  • Coordinate with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel to schedule meetings, depositions, and court appearances.
  • Handle e-filing in Missouri, Kansas, and federal courts as needed.
  • Provide administrative support related to the case, including proofreading, citation checking, and document organization.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of prior legal experience, with a focus on litigation; experience in medical injury, product liability, or wrongful death is strongly preferred.
  • Paralegal or legal assistant background with exposure to complex civil litigation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Solid understanding of court rules, filing procedures, and litigation terminology.
  • Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional communication skills and comfort working directly with attorneys, clients, and external parties.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Join a team that values your input and trusts paralegals with substantive, impactful work.
  • Part-time schedule (20 to 25 hours per week) that still offers exposure to sophisticated litigation and trial work.
  • Opportunity to deepen your expertise in complex medical-related litigation, a highly marketable niche.
  • Collaborative, professional environment where attorneys are experienced mentors and colleagues.
  • Ability to participate in the firm’s 401k plan, even in a part-time capacity.
