GIS Analyst IIto join the team. This position is a remote position.

Cook Inlet Region, Inc., also known as CIRI, is one of 12 land-based Alaska Native regional corporations created pursuant to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). CIRIs regional boundaries roughly follow the traditional Denaina territory of Southcentral Alaska. CIRI was incorporated on June 8, 1972, and is owned today by a diverse group of more than 9,500 Shareholders who live in Alaska and throughout the world.

Position Overview

The GISAnalyst II is responsible for performing fundamental GIS tasks under general supervision. This position focuses on data management, cartography and basic spatial analysis to support projects and operations.

Major Activities

  • Compile, digitize, edit, and maintain geographic data layers and attributes using Esri ArcGIS software.
  • Create and update professional-quality maps and visualizations for reports, presentations, and public use.
  • Perform basic spatial analysis and geoprocessing tasks, such as buffering, overlays, and network analysis.
  • Assist with the collection and integration of data from various sources (e.g., GPS units, spreadsheets, CAD files).
  • Provide first-line technical support to internal users for GIS software and data-related questions.
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency by performing routine quality control checks.
  • Contribute to the documentation of GIS workflows and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of Esri ArcGIS software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Intermediate knowledge and ability to apply cartographic principles.
  • Intermediate knowledge of geodatabases and spatial data types.
  • Familiarity with data collection methods, including GPS.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies and software quickly.
  • Ability to research, organize, and analyze technical information with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated-company employees, Federal Government personnel and other outside professionals.
  • Intermediate knowledge of GIS technology techniques and practices of project management.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills including thorough knowledge of proper grammar, advanced vocabulary, spelling, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare and submit comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and exercise excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and independently prioritizes workload, while working on multiple projects.

Physical Abilities

  • Sufficient fine motor skills for use of computers, calculators with an ability to withstand repetitive keyboarding for extended periods of time
  • Visual and communication abilities adequate to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis
  • Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field
  • Two years of professional experience in a GIS-related role, experience may include internship level experience
  • One year of experience working with the Esri ArcGIS suite, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
  • Must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
